BBB’s Notebook – ROH on HDNet 07/26/2010

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

rohonhdnet-The show has morphed into something a little more polished.  I’m still not sure if I’m a fan of all the recap but I suppose its necessary sometimes.

-Gee… Is it the Briscoes under the hoods? Come on guys, you’re not even trying…..

-The Wolves and the DCFC was good until the run-in.

-Again, we do not need a “Moments Ago.”

-Hey Truth Martini, Don Callis wants his gimmick back….

-Daniels and Rodrick Strong was quite good.  The HDNet main events have been good but the undershow has been very weak lately.

Journal voices alarm over teen use of energy drinks

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Editors at the Canadian Medical Association Journal are wondering why caffeine pills need health warnings guarding against their use in children, yet no such warnings exist on “energy drinks,” which can contain twice as much caffeine.

The editors say the caffeine levels in energy drinks can be sky-high, with the caffeine equivalent of 10 cans of cola or five cups of coffee.

And though Health Canada suggests kids under 12 shouldn’t consume more than 85 milligrams of caffeine a day – and even less among younger kids — some energy drinks sold in Canada contain as much as 500 mg per can.

“Caffeine-loaded energy drinks have now crossed the line from beverages to drugs delivered as tasty syrups,” write Dr. Paul Hébert, CMAJ’s editor-in-chief, Dr. Noni MacDonald, section editor of population and public health at CMAJ, and Dr. Matthew Stanbrook, CMAJ’s scientific deputy editor.

They note that while many coffee drinks can contain high levels of caffeine, they aren’t marketed to kids the way energy drinks are.

“Energy drinks are often targeted toward children and youth through carefully designed advertising campaigns as well as sponsorship of events such as snowboarding and skateboarding competitions,” they write.

They say the real problem is that caffeine levels are not clearly marked on most energy drink cans and bottles. For example, while manufacturers need to state on product labels how much synthetic caffeine their drinks contain, they’re not required to state the amount of caffeine is found in the product’s herbal ingredients, such as guarana.

The editors say youth “can hardly be expected to make appropriate decisions about consuming energy drinks when information on caffeine concentration and appropriate safe amounts is not visible on these products.”

The editors say they would like to see government-mandated restrictions on labelling, sales and marketing, of energy drinks as well as industry-wide standards with clear labeling accompanied by public education.

Refreshments Canada, which represents the Canadian non-alcoholic beverage industry, issued a news release Monday to take issue with what it called “a number of inaccuracies” in the CMAJ editorial.

“We strongly agree that energy drinks should be marketed responsibly,” the group said.

“Energy drinks are intended for adults and clearly indicate on the label that this category of beverage is not recommended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women and people who are sensitive to caffeine.”

In added that, contrary to the editorial, energy drink labels do list intended population for its drinks, as well as any precautions (such as not mixing with alcohol), and declaration of caffeine content from all sources.

Matt was cool as a cuke on that surfboard and that note from his wife was picture perfect. His evilness combined with his (in my opinion) likeability reminds me or Dr. Will.

That Jewish guy needs a fucking hate-crime. You’re a Jew.. WE FUCKING GET IT!!!

Tons Of News On TNA’s Hard Justice PPV

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

- The idea to make the TNA Hard Justice PPV an “ECW” themed event happened at the Monday tapings. There was a planned direction for the ECW crew, but they along with Tommy Dreamer pitched a new direction which Dixie Carter approved. Carter also signed off on Dreamer running the show, which at this time is planned to be a “one off” ECW show. Many are impressed with how much trust Dreamer has been given by management.

- The August 8th PPV has been renamed “Hardcore Justice: One Last Stand,” and a new commercial has been sent out to PPV providers. The commercial reportedly features an ECW chant, something the company will have to be very careful about using for legal reasons.

- Tommy Dreamer has been contacting talent about doing the show, while TNA’s Terry Taylor is handling the financial side of things. Talent expected to appear are Jerry Lynn, Sandman, Sabu, Spike Dudley, The FBI, Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney and Swinger. No contracts have been signed and many people booked have asked that their name be kept quiet.

- They hope to headline the PPV with an RVD vs. Jerry Lynn match. It is not set in stone, and there are backup plans in place in case the match cannot happen. The plan is to announce two or three matches ahead of time, and then fill the card out via surprise, like ECW used to most of the time.

- Paul Heyman has nothing to do with the angle at this time. The show is also not the big surprise mentioned previously by Dixie Carter.

- Shane Douglas has been contacted to work the event, but he has not agreed to terms. Douglas is reportedly pushing the idea of wrestling Ric Flair on the show to play off of Douglas always calling him out in ECW.

- The response of the former ECW wrestlers has been interesting. Some feel excited about the possibility, while others are just acting like it is just another show since they have been down this road before. Some have been extremely thankful for the chance to work the event, while some have tried to get as much as they can from the company for their appearance. One talent, who has been off of TV for years, is refusing to come in unless he is was granted a multi-year contract by TNA.

- Yoshihiro Tajiri and Super Crazy are booked in Japan on August 8th, and will not be appearing at the show.

- There is no truth to the rumored Sandman, Dreamer and New Jack vs. Rhino, Richards and Raven match that has been reported on.

- Talent with independent bookings on Saturday will be flown into Orlando on Sunday morning. Others that can be there will be doing a Saturday meet and greet with fans at the NASCAR restaurant at Universal Citiwalk.

- TNA is trying to take the approach of the first One Night Stand show, booking who they can to make it an authentic feeling event, including referees and managers. There has even been discussion of honoring former ECW talent that cannot be there on the show.

- At this time, the PPV is the only event planed with the ECW theme. But there could be more appearances from ECW alumni after the show, if they can be integrated into TNA storylines.
