BBB’s Notebook – WWE Over The Limit 2012

-Intros for the People Power Battle Royal starts on the pre-show which is kinda cool.

-MATCH: People Power Battle Royal.

-Christian wins a pretty entertaining battle royal. Tyson Kidd had a pretty solid run and a few nice spots.

-MATCH: WWE Tag Team Titles – Dolph Ziggler & Jack Swagger vs. R-Truth & Kofi Kingston (c)

-Kofi pins Ziggler after a TIP. Really fun tag match but I want to see Dolph break free and move up.

-MATCH: WWE Women’s Title – Beth Phoenix vs. Layla (c)

-Beforehand, Eve sends Hawkins and Rex out to confiscate anti-Johnny signs from the crowd….

-Layla wins with the neckbreaker. They gave it a fair bit of time which isn’t necessarily a good things as Layla isn’t in Beth’s league and looked quite sloppy at times.

-MATCH: WWE World Heavyweight Title – Alberto Del Rio vs. Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton vs. Sheamus (c)

-Sheamus won an awesome match that slowly built into something really hot at the end.

-So Christian is a baby now apparently….

-MATCH: The Miz vs. Brodus Clay.

-Miz does the fairly standard heel promo during his intro. Says he will prove he is the best dancer in WWE. He then goes in to do a pretty terrible Michael Jackson dance.

-Brodus wins a standard affair….

-MATCH: WWE Intercontinental title – Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Christian.

-Christian wins but I missed most of it changing Chantal’s band aids. What I saw was good. I don’t think an IC title reign does anything for Christian.

-MATCH: WWE Title – CM Punk (c) vs. Daniel Bryan.

-Punk rolls the Yes lock into a pin seconds before Punk tapped out. What a great match. Can’t say enough good things about it and with the finish they used we may get to see it again.

-MATCH: Ryback vs. Camacho.

-Pallet cleanser match. Blah.

-MATCH: John Lauranaitis vs. John Cena.

-Silly but somewhat entertaining beatdown followed by Big Show heel turn. Decent show but Punk and Bryan was gold.

BBB’s Notebook – WWE Extreme Rules 2012

MATCH: Falls Count Anywhere – Randy Orton vs. Kane.

-Moments in and we already have a “did you see that!?” and a “oh my goodness!” from Booker T.

-Orton wins with an RKO on a chair. The first half to three-quarters of the match where they brawled on the floor and in the back was shit, but the rest was pretty solid. The DDT off the announce table was pretty cool.

-MATCH: Brodus Clay vs. Dolph Ziggler.

-I had high hopes for Ziggler in 2012 but so far he’s wallowing.

-Crowd is red hot tonight.

-Clay wins with splash in the most competitive match he’s had since his return. Dolph worked hard.

-The wheel for the IC title stipulation is spun and it’s a table match.

-MATCH: WWE Intercontinental Title table match – Big Show (c) vs. Cody Rhodes.

-Cody drop kicks Show on the apron and he steps through a table he set up and loses the match. Can’t decide if that finish was brilliant or stupid.

-Afterwards, Show chokeslams Rhodes through a table in the ring a press slams him into one on the floor.

-MATCH: WWE World Heavyweight title 2 out of 3 falls match – Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus (c)

-Bryan loses the first fall by DQ after continuing to attack Sheamus while he was in the ropes. Bryan dominated the first fall.

-Bryan immediately locks on the Yes lock and Sheamus passes out. Tied up 1 all as the doctors look at Sheamus. Crowd is white hot.

-Sheamus says he is ready to go for the third fall.

-Sheamus hits the Brogue kick for the win in a really good, hard-hitting match the crowd ate up. I wonder if the same match was in front of a docile crowd it wouldn’t have come off as well…

-MATCH: handicap match – 2 Jobbers (Aaron and Matt I think…) vs. Ryback.

-Fans chanting Goldberg!

-Pretty much what you would expect. Boring and a waste of ppv time. I so don’t care about this guy and I hope he is just being built up so he cam be fed to Lesnar. But a note to TNA, this is how you build up an undefeated star (I’m looking at you Crimson…)

-MATCH: WWE Title Street Fight – Chris Jericho vs CM Punk (c)

-Jericho and Punk bust out the street fight clothes. Nice touch.

-Punk brings out the Singapore cane to a loud ECdub chant.

-The spot with Punks sister was well done.

-The elbow dice through the table was pretty spectacular.

-Punk wins with the GTS. Perfect mix between street fight and wrestling match and they gave it enough time to hit some peaks and valleys. Fun to watch.

-Eve informs Beth Phoenix she isn’t cleared to compete but Nikki will defend against a surprise opponent…. That isn’t Kharma.

-MATCH: Divas title – Nikke Bella (c) vs. Layla.

-Laya wins a short one with a neckbreaker. It was what it was, not good nor bad…. Just was. My pallet is clean.

-MATCH: Extreme Rules – John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar.

-Brock looks a tad flabby by Brock standards, especially next to videos from his first run.

-Lesnar with stiff elbows right off the hop and Cena’s bleeding like the proverbial stuck pig.

-Doctor or cut man or whoever comes in to take a look at Cena. A couple of times…

-Ref bump.

-Huge shine for Lesnar off the top of the match. Dominant.

-Not so much a shine as just a beat down.

-Ref bump again and Cena kicks out of the F5 and the Lesnar KO’s the new ref.

-Stairs go in the ring.

-Couldn’t really see how Lesnar hurt his knee on the dive outside the ring.

-Cena hits an AA on the ring steps and gets the win. Don’t even know what to say… Does the way Brock lost make him look weak in his first match back? Even though he dominated?

-Great show.

-Interesting speech by Cena afterwards.

BBB’s Notebook – TNA Lockdown 2012

-Storms truck almost didn’t turn over!

-Pretty decent opening video. A lot of hype for Storm and Roode to live up to.

-MATCH: Lethal Lockdown – Garrett Bischoff, Rob Van Dam, Austin Aries, AJ Styles, Mr. Anderson vs. Gunner, Bully Ray, Kazarian, Christopher Daniels, Eric Bischoff.

-Love seeing the faces walking around behind Gunner before he walked out. Awful.

-Wonder what’s with AJ’s gloves.

-Garrett pins his dad for the win. A pretty bland start and a slow clunky finish but a decent middle portion. Cool cage roof spot from Styles and Kazarian.

-MATCH: TNA Tag Team Titles – Motor City Machineguns vs. Samoa Joe & Magnus (c)

-Sounded like they played the wrong music for the Guns. Bush league.

-Crowd is dead.

-Joe and Magnus win a pretty decent match that probably would have come off better with a livelier crowd.

-MATCH: TNA Television Title – Robbie E vs. D-Von (c)

-D-Von wins with a spine buster and nobody cares. Not much to say.

-Post match, Rob Terry attacks D-Von and they leave him laying. Bland and blah.

-MATCH: Knockouts Title – Gail Kim (c) vs. Velvet Sky.

-Gail holds the tights on a victory roll. Another pretty bland match on a slowly dying ppv.

-The Flair/Hogan promo made me want to punch myself in the face. At least remember the name of the damn show.

-MATCH: Matt Morgan vs. Crimson.

-So over this feud.

-Morgan gets caught in the ropes and Crimson leaves the cage. More blandness but no one really cared anyway.

-MATCH: Jeff Hardy vs. Kurt Angle.

-Hardy hits the Swanton off the top of the cage for the win. That certainly woke the crowd up and it was a fairly decent match to boot.

-MATCH: TNA Knockouts Tag Titles – Rosita & Sarita vs. Eric Young & ODB (c)

-ODB hits the Bam on Sarita for the win. Throwaway “bonus match.”

-MATCH: TNA Heavyweight Title – James Storm vs. Bobby Roode (c)

-Storm driving the truck out was a nice touch, too bad it couldn’t have come out further.

-Storm superkicks Roode through the door of the cage and Roode retains. Saw the finish coming but it was pretty well done. Pretty solid match to cap off a fairly weak ppv.

BBB’s Notebook – TNA Victory Road 2012

-Pretty decent opening video package with Roode and Sting.

-TNA is on the Twitter bandwagon. #VictoryRoad

-Apparently, earlier in the day Bully Ray said he would take the show hostage if his match with James Storm isn’t made a number one contenders match… Bully hits the ring….

-Bully says he isn’t going anywhere until he gets what he wants. Out comes James Storm.

-Storm says he’s on, and right now…

-MATCH: James Storm vs. Bully Ray.

-About a minute in Storm hits the Superkick and that’s it. Blah.

-MATCH: X Division Title – Austin Aries (c) vs. Zema Ion.

-Aries wins with the brainbuster in the last chancery. Aries came out of the match as a face, hopefully that’s what they wanted. Good match.

-MATCH: TNA Tag Team Titles – Samoa Joe & Magnus (c) vs. Matt Morgan & Crimson.

-Morgan and Crimson argue leading to Crimson turning and spearing his partner. Champs retain and move on to the inevitably boring Morgan/Crimson feud…

-Taz dissects Twitter and it’s funny.

-Robbie comes to the ring to apparently issue another open challenge.

-Robbie opens his challenge to the fans…

-Jaws with the fans including some… Plump ladies in the front row.

-D-Von comes out from the crowd and Brian Hebner tells Rob Terry to “get the hell out of the ring” which was odd and the match is on…

-MATCH: TNA Television title – Robbie E (c) vs. D-Von.

-Brooke Hogan sitting in the front row tries twice to get a chair away from E.  I don’t want her on my TV…

-D-Von wins a short but actually pretty decent match. Nice to see D-Von win some singles gold.

-Dixie announces Slammiversary will take place in Dallas at the U of T. Her home town.

-MATCH: TNA Knockout title – Gail Kim (c) vs. Madison Rayne.

-Competitive match, Gail hit Eat Defeat for the win. Wasn’t bed but didn’t do a lot for me.

-MATCH: AJ Styles & Mr. Anderson vs. Christopher Daniels & Kazarian.

-Anderson’s sporting quite the shiner.

-AJ Styles is so talented.

-Styles counters Kaz’s Fade to Black into the Styles Clash for the win. Pretty solid fun match to watch.

-MATCH: Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Hardy.

-Angle takes a knee to the gut from Hardy, tries to roll over it and lands on his head. Yikes.

-After a swanton Angle shifts weight and holds the rope to pin Hardy. Started off a little lackluster but finished strong and the crowd was really into it.

-MATCH: Sting vs. Bobby Roode.

-Sting smacks his head on a chair delivering the Scorpion Deathdrop on Roode who then pins him for the victory. Looked like it hurt. Crowd liked it, I thought it was decent but not spectacular for a main event.

-Afterward Roode drags Dixie into the ring, Sting comes to and saves her but Roode returns and chairs him from behind. He then duct tapes Sting to the bottom rope and drags Dixie by the hair across the ring, grabs a chair to attack Sting but Dixie lays in front of him.

-The end was a little much.

BBB’s Notebook – WWE WrestleMania XXVIII

-Lillian starts us off with America the Beautiful as per WrestleMania tradition.

-I watched the show live with family and friends but it didn’t have my full attention so I’m watching it again for this review…

-MATCH: World Heavyweight Championship – Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan (c)

-Nice new robe on Danielson.

-A kiss from AJ and a Brogue kick and it’s done in about ten seconds. The only part of the show I wasn’t happy with.  All 3 (Bryan, Sheamus and the title) deserved better.

-Ill received pep talk by The Miz for team Johnny before Lauranaitis shows up for one himself.

-MATCH: Kane vs. Randy Orton.

-Aside from the chokeslam off the top finish, nothing super special but just a solidly worked match by both, which isn’t a bad thing at all. A little surprised Kane went over but if anyone deserves it it’s him.

-Santino and Foley in the back with some dude from Deadliest Catch. No idea… DAMN!

-National Guard ad spot.

-MATCH: Intercontinental Title – Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Big Show.

-Never understood the DDT to the foot…

-Show spears Cody in the junk and then hits the WMD for the win. Short and fairly uneventful. I think an IC title reign doesn’t do much for Show but I guess we’ll see.

-Sheamus K-Mart ad.

-MATCH: Kelly Kelly & Maria Menounos vs. Beth Phoenix & Eve.

-Pretty cool Diva video vignette before the match.

-Beth has wings.

-Should be Nattie, not Eve.

-Sunlife Stadium looks amazing after the sun set.

-Kelly hit a pretty decent somersault Thesz press from the top.

-I said on Twitter, Menounos climbs the ropes like I do.

-Maria rolls up Beth, the usual ‘Mania celebrity stuff.

-78,363 attendance.

-J.R. Comes out to announce Hell in a Cell. Nice touch.

-MATCH: Hell in a Cell – HHH vs. The Undertaker.

-As I tweeted, Taker looks like Super Shredder. With a new do.

-Hunter lifting Undertaker up while in the triangle choke was crazy strength.

-H wears out Takers back with the chair shots.

-Great story playing out where Hunter wants Shawn to end it but ‘Taker says not to. HHH increases the stakes with the sledgehammer.

-Shawn considers stopping the match and Taker grabs him in the Hells Gate. Interesting.

-Taker chokes out HHH but Michaels is down and out.

-Here comes Little Naitch.

-HHH kicks out of the chokeslam.

-Robinson takes an ugly chokeslam…..

-Michaels superkicks Taker into a Pedigree but Taker kicks out. Crowd is insane.

-Hunter throws Shawn out of the ring, Taker goes on offense and hits the Tombstone but HHH kicks out.

-Crowd is red hot, Michaels is crying like a baby in the corner.

-Taker kicks out of a 2nd Pedigree.

-Stiff as hell chair shots to HHH’s back.

-Taker with the sledgehammer to the head of HHH, Shawn turns his back. So awesome.

-One more Tombstone and HBK counts the 3. Flawless, and the WWE production team deserves a lot of credit for having cameras in the right place to help tell the story and hear what everyone was saying. Those guys don’t get the credit they deserve on a weekly basis.

-The Fink! As we honor the Hall of Famers.

-Flo Rida takes out Heath Slater in a really odd segment.

-MATCH: Team Johnny vs. Team Teddy.

-After a really fun match, Eve accidentally distracts the ref and Miz hits the SCF on Ryder for the win. Afterwards, Eve kicks Ryder in the junk and walks out. Quite the push for Eve.

-Fuck A-Rod.

-Extreme Rules is next? No more Backlash?

-In the back, Lauranaitis tells Punk if he gets DQ’d he loses the belt.

-MATCH: WWE Championship – Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk (c)

-Early on they use the DQ stip a lot and it works.

-Suplex to the floor from the apron was sick.

-Jericho taps to the Anaconda Vice. Don’t know what to say. No nonsense, no gimmicks, no bullshit just 2 of the best in the industry showing how it’s done. Greatness.

-I don’t know what to say about Mama Clay and the bridge club. The ridiculous and the sublime.

-Watching again, I think MGK killed it.

-MATCH: The Rock vs. John Cena.

-Cena’s facials are gold.

-I think Rocky was going up heavy on Cena but what do I know…

-Crowd is insane.

-Rock kicks out of the AA and Cena kicks out of the Rock Bottom.

-Rockys shitty Sharpshooter.

-Quote of the show “you can’t make movies with a broke leg” – Jerry Lawler.

-Cena gets cocky and tries a people’s elbow and catches a Rock Bottom and gets pinned. A really fun finish to a solid and fun match they put together. Raw should be interesting!

-Bring on WrestleMania 29!!

BBB’s Notebook – ROH Final Battle 2011

Since we switched to Telus cable I don’t get the ROH TV show anymore so I’m behind. Let’s go to the video tape….

-Some technical difficulties off the top but hey, iPPV is in its infancy.

-Love how they call Cary Silkin the ‘founder’ of ROH….

-MATCH: Michael Elgin vs. TJ Perkins.

-Elgin drives Perkins gut first into the barricade, looked stiff and painful.

-Perkins high spots are crisp, good shit.

-Seeing Hammerstein makes me miss ECW.

-I don’t like the inverted hurracanrana. Dangerous.

-Buckle Bomb into Powerbomb finishes Perkins. Fun, fast paced opener that the crowd liked. Perfect length as well.

-MATCH: Tomasso Ciampa vs. Jimmy Rave.

-Awesome chain wrestling off the top.

-Hard running knees in the corner by Ciampa.

-Ciampa wins with Project Ciampa after Embassy interference. Lackluster in my opinion. Opener was better.

-MATCH: ROH TV Title – Mike Bennett vs. El Generico vs. Jay Lethal (c)

-Maria accompanies Bennett to the ring.

-Crowd chants CM Punk at Bennett. I love New York.

-Bennett rolls up Generico with 2 hands full of tights to eliminate him, the Lethal hits the Lethal Injection for the win. Really fun match that I liked a lot. Bennett is a good heel with an unlike ability factor that Maria enhances.

-MATCH: Kevin Steen vs. Steve Corino.

-Jimmy Jacobs is the guest ref. this should be a good one.

-Kevin Kelly compares Steen to Brian Pillman.

-Lots of plunder as the great Dusty Rhodes would say.

-Corino hits a sick superplex off the top onto a piece of guardrail laying on chairs. So dangerous.

-Steen falls off the top to the floor through a table and chair clusterfuck. Crowd chants “we want fire.”  That’s a little much…

-Steen almost kills Corino with an exploder on a chair. Looked awesome and awful at the same time.

-Corino took a chair to the head and Nigel sounded legit pissed.

-Steen finishes it with a package piledriver into a stack of chairs. Sick. Steen wins and is now reinstated in ROH.

-Afterwards Steen piledriver Jacobs for good measure. He goes for Cornette but Generico makes the save and they get into it, ending with a piledriver to Generico through a table. Crazy scene, really fun to watch. Steen is being booked as a psycho and it’s great.

-MATCH: Tag Team Gauntlet – Future Shock vs. The Bravados vs. All Night Xpress vs. Caprice & Cedric vs. The Young Bucks.

-How am I gonna keep up with this?

-Teams one and two are The Bravado Brothers and Caprice & Cedric.

-Cedric Alexander pins one of the Bravados in a someone lackluster opening round (but lackluster for ROH is still better then most. ) The Bravados are out, which will bring up Future Shock as the next team.

-Cole and O’Reily hit Ride the Lightening (variation of Total Elimination) on Alexander and he and Coleman are out, but they looked really good in the second round. Out next is The Young Bucks.

-Bucks advance after some awesome work from both teams.  I’d like to see these 2 get 20-25 on an iPPV. Last 2 teams are the Bucks and the ANX.

-If I remember correctly, Titus was already injured at this point so we’ll see how much he does in the match.

-Titus sells the knee on the floor and King goes it alone.

-Titus ends up doing some work and it helps tell a great story.

-Ref stops the match after both Bucks go after Titus’s knee. I like the finish, you don’t see it too often.

-It’s time for the Roderik Strong invitational…

-MATCH: Roderick Strong vs. Chris Hero. pretty preictable promo by the heels, Hero answers the challenge.

-Strong wins with the Sick Kick after interference from Truth Martini. Kind of a stop-and-start kind of match but still quite good.

-MATCH: ROH Tag Team Titles – Wrestlings Greatest Tag Team (c) vs. The Briscoe Brothers.

-Unprotected chair shots to the head of both Briscoes.

-Jay bleeds like a pig as they get mugged by WGTT.

-Shelton gets taken out to the back by official due to his injured ribs, leaving Haas to go it alone.

-Ref bumps a plenty as Shelton hobbles back to the ring with a board which hepromptly smashes over Mark Briscoes head.

-Crowd yells Hacksay Duggans HOOOO as the board splits in 2. Funny stuff.

-Briscoes hit the Doomsday Device for the win and their 7th ROH tag title reign. Fun to watch but had no real flow…. But maybe a grudge match like that shouldn’t really have a “flow.”

-MATCH: ROH World Title – Eddie Edwards vs. Davey Richards (c)

-Dan Severn accompanies Edwards to the ring.

-Tony Kozina and Kyle O’Reily accompany Richards.

-Starts off quick and stiff just as would be expected.

-Nigel McGuinnes is a really good color-man.

-I know they needed to do something with Severn but the Roderick Strong run in hurt the momentum.

-They beat the shit out of each other for a half hour or so and Richards wins after kicks to the head. Ok…. I liked the match and they left it all in the ring, the last 5 to 7 minutes were epic but I have to say that parts in the middle were a little lacking. How many chops and forearms do we need, and the Kawada kicks I suppose are cool but it looked like Edwards just let Davey hold his head down and kick him in the face repeatedly. At least look like you’re in peril or you are trying to escape/counter. But it was fun to watch and better then just about anything WWE and TNA can offer with a few exceptions (and I’m not being an indie snob even though it certainly sounds that way.)

BBB’s Notebook – TNA Against All Odds 2012

-Why is Jeff Hardy smiling…..?

-Horrible music to open. And no Tazz is a bummer but I’m sure Borash will be solid.

-MATCH: Jesse Sorenson vs. Zema Ion.

-Sad knowing what’s about to happen.

-The match was decent up to the dive which looked harmless enough.  Not sure if should have not had the knees bent and pointed out but it was an unfortunate situation.   Apparently Lance Storm is going to write a blog about it, it will be interesting to see what he has to say.

-If this was WWE they would have had 18 Rock or Cena vignettes they could have thrown to.

-Robbie E come to the ring and announces the “Robbie E invitational” which leads to….

-MATCH: Robbie E vs. Shannon Moore.

-Robbie T punches Moore into a Robbie E DDT. Not a bad match from a wrestling perspective but really no reason for the fans to care either way.

-MATCH: TNA Knockouts title – Gail Kim (c) vs. Tara.

-Madison and Gail argue during the match and eventually Madison leaves.

-Gail hits Eat Defeat after Tara ‘injures’ her knee on a moonsault. Pretty good match from 2 ladies who can definitely work.

-MATCH: TNA Tag Team titles – Crimson & Matt Morgan (c) vs. Samoa Joe and Magnus.

-Screwed up the graphics. Bush League.

-Joe and Magnus win with that cool snap are elbow finisher they use. Decent match and now I’m sure we get Morgan/Crimson feud part 2.

-MATCH: TNA X Division title – Austin Aries (c) vs. Alex Shelley.

-Call the cops because the show has been stolen! Aries wins with the brainbuster and the last chancerie. Excellent match that kept the fans glued and guessing. Hope they go again.

-MATCH: AJ Styles vs. Frankie Kazarian.

-Kaz hits the fade to black (which is a sick looking move) after distraction from Daniels. Really good match but I’m waiting for the payoff to this feud.

-MATCH: Gunner vs. Garrett Bischoff.

-Gunner works over the neck and gets the win with a DDT. Hogan was given the option of throwing in the towel but didn’t.  I don’t think the fans care enough about Garrett yet to get him over. I don’t think the Hogan rub has enough cache in TNA. At least not the same way it does/would in WWE.

-MATCH: TNA World Heavyweight Title. – Bobby Roode (c) vs. James Storm vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Bully Ray.

-Sting is the “special enforcer.”

-Decent match, nothing special and the finish was a blatant ripoff of Hart/Michaels/Undertaker spit and chairshot. (I wanna say SummerSlam ’97?)
