BBB’s Notebook – The Best of Smackdown 10th Anniversary Disc One

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Ok, so apparently this is a top 100 moments in Smackdown history sort of deal. Let’s go to the videotape…

#100 – Cena debuts the spinner belt. Ugh.

#99 – The kiss between Stephanie and Bischoff. They never really explored that….

#98 – Show chokeslams Brock through the announce table.

#97 – The Thanksgiving food fights… Those were pretty fun.

#96 – ‘Taker vs. Orton in 2005.

#95 – Mattitude. Matt Hardy V-Oneuhhhhh! The Mattitude facts and MF’er stuff was fun.

#94 – Sept. 25 2004, Kurt Angle and Luther tranquelize the Big Show. Then his head was shaved.

#93 – Rey vs. Eddie 09/09/05.(Cage match) This was right in the middle of the whole Dominic angle. Great matches, terrible angle.

#92 – Mr. America. I think it was Hogan…. And Shawn O’Haire was awesome.

#91 – 07/19/01 Vince, Austin and the acoustic guitar….

#90 – Edge and Angle… Comic gold!!

#89 – 12/30/99 Chyna vs. Jericho for the IC title.

#88 – 06/29/2000 Hardcore Hollys arm injury.

#87 – 02/24/00 Mick gets locked up. Kinda lame… Foley dragged behind a bus.

#86 – The return of Pipers Pit. Rikishi and the coconut. Awesome.

#85 – Carlitos debut. Winning the US title from Cena.

#84 – 10/09/03 Eddie gives Show a sewage shower…

#83 – The Boogeyman…. What else can I say. I had never seen him eat Jillians mole. So lame.

#82 – The return of Hulk Hogan. That ovation was (as Lance Storm would say) ridiculous.

#81 – 04/20/00 HHH vs Taz while Taz was ECW champ. A pretty substantial page in the death of ECW (RIP) I forgot Tommy gets owned in this match too.

#80 – The Friendly Tap 01/20/00. I think there was a zillion brawls at Tim Whites bar, but apparently this one was special. New Age Outlaws vs The APA.

#79 – Gore! Rhyno gore Jericho through the Smackdown set.

#78 – 09/23/99 HHH runs the 6 pack challenge gauntlet.

#77 – The Rock ‘n Sock Connection. They did some great stuff together.

#76 – 05/02/02 Jericho vs. Hogan. This match made me hate wrestling.

#75 – Austin steals Angles medals. Good stuff.

#74 – 07/29/04 Eddie auctions Kurts medals. Eddie dragged out all of Kurts stuff for auction on WWE.com, too funny.

#73 – Funeral fight between Dawn Marie and Torrie Wilson. Worst angle ever. RIP Al Wilson. Katie Vick bad.

#72 – 05/11/00 Great Vince heel promo.

#71 – Head Cheese! Steve Blackman sucked…..

#70 – 8 man tag, debut on My Network TV.

BBB’s Notebook – WWE RAW 08/24/09

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

raw-Damn, for some reason it recorded that 15 minute pre-show. I bet the ending is now cut off.

-Raw is live in Vegas. I love Vegas…

-”Mired” in controversy Vince, not marred….

-Sometimes DX is played out and sometimes they are entertaining. I’m not sure which one I have tonight.

-The Vince birthday segment was fun but pretty long. The Legacy interruption was cool.

-Santino is now a no-entrance jobber.

-The DX backstage promo/merch shill was brutal. What the fuck was that noise??

-HATED Henry and MVP vs. Show/Jericho. Bullshit finish.

-More Chavo/Hornswoggle shit.

-As predicted, the PVR cut off during the main event but I assume the heels went over and Cena saved Vince from getting punted.

BBB’s Notebook – WWE SummerSlam 2009

Monday, September 21st, 2009

-The DX open was interesting.

-I like the white ropes.

-Haha JR said “offensive cavalcade.”

-Ziggler and Misterio was a hot opener. Very good match.

-MVP and Swagger was decent. Nothing blow away.

-Nancy O’Dell and Freddy Prinze Jr.? What the fuck?

-Tag title match was ok. Show and Jerichos new music is much better.

-Punks backstage promo was awesome.

-Kane and Khali was yucky.

-The DX entrance was a tad self-indulgent. Save that shit for WrestleMania.

-DX and Legacy was very very good. Nothing overly fancy, just solid work and Legacy walk out looking great despite the loss. Loved it.

-God that ECW belt is ugly.

-Yikes, Christian and Regal was a waste. I guess it clears the pallet (sic?) After DX and Legacy (or kills the crowd.)

-Holy fuck, way to fuck up Lillian…. The whole false Cena/Orton DQ finish was brutal.

-False countout finish is brutal also, who booked this?

-Fan running into the ring could have been made to look more real.

-Orton and Cena was too much. Cena came out looking weak in my opinion.

-Jeff Hardy looks like King Diamond.

-Hardy and Punk TLC wasn’t anything special.

-Huge pop for ‘Taker. His body replacing Hardys was well done.

Guns Don’t Kill People, Dion Kills People….

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Posted on my new kick ass red laptop. Flames red. Fuckin’ Dion red. Recognize.

EDIT: I think Giordano is the hero of the whole deal.  He wasn’t going to let the jerkoff who hopped off the bench blindside Dion/  This Bud’s for you.

BBB’s Notebook – ROH on HDNet 08/24/09

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

roh-Steens package piledriver is vicious.

-The D-Lo squash was blah.

-Pretty promo-heavy mid part of the show, including Jerry Lynn, who shouldn’t know a guy named Mike let along be given one.

-Sonjay back next week, that’s cool.

-The fuckin’ crane camera is annoying me. Do they really need a crane camera?

-Hogewood still sucks.

-Aries and Strong was good, nice heel finish by Aries.

Nine Inch Nails Wrap Final Tour With Epic Los Angeles Show

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Trent Reznor came to Los Angeles to end it all. Two decades after releasing his first Nine Inch Nails album, Reznor brought the band’s life as a touring act to a close Thursday with a sweeping three-hour concert at the Wiltern Theater, erupting with sounds intense and emotional from throughout his career for a full house of more than 2,200 fans.

He ended NIN at full power, not nostalgic but fully engaged, and still an important contemporary act long after the band’s ’90s breakout. Reznor led guitarist Robin Finck, bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen and drummer Ilan Rubin through a 38-song set that mingled their best-known work with songs from The Slip, released in May as a free download, returning the band to the brooding, ambitious sounds explored to epic proportions on 1999’s The Fragile.

Photos from Nine Inch Nails’ last-ever live show.

“This is it,” Reznor said early in the set, and added during the night’s third encore: “We’re not going to tour anymore as Nine Inch Nails, but we’re all still going to be making music.”

The big room was already sweltering and filled with fog by the time the lights went down and Reznor stepped up to the microphone, lunging forward and clutching his mike stand as desperately as ever for “Somewhat Damaged.” He raged across the layers of industrial noise and melody: “Poisoned to my rotten core / Too fucked up to care anymore!”

There was no “Closer,” but the night delivered a generous selection from the range of NIN’s recorded work. Songs raged and flowed from one to the next as if from a single piece of music, a consistent vision across decades holding the night together. Fans shouted along to lyrics of loathing and release during “March of the Pigs,” and Reznor fell to one knee, rising with arms wide open to sing the song’s sudden moment of melodic clarity amid the noise: “Now, doesn’t that make you feel better?”

The Wiltern concert came at the end of NIN’s “Wave Goodbye” tour and its concluding series of farewell gigs in Los Angeles, where Reznor now lives after a dozen years in New Orleans. He brought several guests onstage for the occasion, beginning with pianist Mike Garson, known for his ’70s work with David Bowie and later with NIN on The Fragile. He stayed for several songs, including a solo instrumental run on “Down in the Park.”

He was followed by electronic pioneer Gary Numan, a profound influence on Reznor from his days growing up in “a cornfield in Pennsylvania.” They did three songs together, with Numan as lead vocalist on a searing “Metal” and “I Die: You Die.” Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro unfurled a quick, furious solo on “Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now).”

During the second of NIN’s three encores, the band was joined onstage by members of Dillinger Escape Plan, who share Reznor’s appetite for chaos and destruction, smashing instruments and nearly teetering off the stage during “Mr. Self Destruct.” Near the end, things quieted down for a moment as Reznor sang a haunted, sorrowful “Hurt” to Finck’s acoustic guitar, reinventing a career-defining standard of pain and disgust for a live audience desperate to hear it one last time.

BBB’s Notebook – ECW on Global 08/22/09

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

ecw-Hurricane and Burchill was ok. Burchill still doesn’t do much for me.

-The Abraham Washington show with Goldust and Sheamus was weak.

-I liked the finish to Tatsu and Zack Ryder.

-Loved the Jackson turn on Christian. Could make for some interesting tv.

BBB’s Notebook – WWE Friday Night Smackdown 08/21/09

smackdown-6 Man opener was hot.

-The Matt Hardy sit down interview was very TNA.

-I still dig CM Punk.

-Good to see Nattie getting some work, albeit brief.

-Matt Hardy is awfully purple…

-6 man main event was hot, fun to watch.
